Coimbatore: Naam Tamizhar Katchi chief Seeman has hit back at Trichy SP Varun Kumar for criticising NTK at a police officers' conference and warned him to watch his words.
Addressing reporters in Coimbatore on Thursday, Seeman slammed Varun Kumar for terming NTK a ‘Tamil chauvinistic organisation' during his speech at the recent fifth national conference of young IPS officers in Chandigarh.
Stating NTK was a political party functioning for the past 14 years and has got 36 lakh votes, he questioned Varun Kumar for terming it a ‘sectarian force'.
Seeman said Varun Kumar should watch his words as "he would have to retire from police force one day" but NTK would be there forever. "You are just an IPS officer. Let's fight it out,'' he said.
While talking about cyber security and challenges posed by cyber threats at the conference, Varun Kumar had stated he and his wife, who is also an IPS officer, had to face an online attack from NTK functionaries. He said they had morphed his wife and children's photos and posted them on social media with intimidatory messages.
Responding to the speech, Seeman asked if this was the way to portray a political party that has been working for people's cause. "Is this what an IPS officer would do,'' he asked.
Soon after Seeman's statements, NTK functionaries posted messages on social media hitting out at Varun Kumar.
The controversy is a continuation of a war of words between the two a few months back.
