Aizawl: Mizoram Police and sister enforcement organisations seized large amount of narcotic drugs and huge cache of explosives worth Rs 133.7 crore at different places across the state during the past three days.
Lalbiakthanga Khiangte, IGP (headquarters) and CPRO of the state Police told TOI that pursuing a reliable input from Champhai police, a team of CID (sepcial branch) intercepted a drug trafficker on Thursday at Bawngkawn neighbourhood on the northern outskirts of Aizawl city and seized 90gm of suspected heroin, valued Rs. 2,70,000 in local market rate and 9.595 Kgs (approx. 1 lakh tablets) of methamphetamine tablets, valued Rs. 124.73 lakhs in local market, from the illegal possession of Rodintluanga (25) Champhai Zotlang bordering Myanmar.
Khiangte said the seized contraband items were hidden inside the door panels of his car. A case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 was registered at the Special Narcotics police station in Aizawl.
South Mizoram's Lunglei district Police special branch team on Wednesday recovered and seized 42.38 grams of suspected heroin, valued Rs.1,27,140 from the illegal possession of Lalremfela (32) of Durtlang Leitan, Aizawl and David Lallawmawma (32) of Durtlang, Aizawl at the outskirt of Pukpui from their car. A case under ND&PS Act, 1985 was registered at Lunglei Police station, he said.
The IGP added that acting on input received, a joint team of policemen of Thingsai police station and personnel of 42 battalion of Assam Rifles, while conducting joint operation on Wednesday at a check gate in Thingsai village in Hnahthial district, bordering Myanmar recovered and seized various explosives from a mini truck driven by Lallawmzuala (40) of Thingsai village.
The seized explosives are - Gelatine - 31 boxes (6200 Sticks), valued at Rs. 2,17,000/-, detonator - 47 boxes (100 each), valued at Rs. 1,41,000/- and Cortex - 15 Rolls, valued at Rs. 1,42,500/-. A criminal case under relevant sections of Explosive Substances Act, 1908 registered at Thingsai Police Station for further investigation on backward and forward linkages.
