Lucknow: Congress members on Thursday organized a peace prayer meet, ‘Buddhi Shuddhi Path', to condemn atrocities against the Hindu community in Bangladesh and to urge the central govt to ensure justice and promote unity.
The Congress workers organized a ‘havan' and offered prayers to pay tribute to the victims of violence in Bangladesh.
"The central govt's failure to engage in dialogue with the Bangladesh govt regarding the persecution and oppression of the Hindu community in Bangladesh highlights the BJP's insensitivity towards Hindus. The Congress party demands that the govt should immediately hold talks with Bangladesh to establish peace in the country," UP Congress spokesperson Manish Hindvi said.
The special prayer was organised and led by City Congress Committee president Amit Srivastava Tyagi and Shahzad Alam.
"Congress respects all castes and religions. Whenever there is injustice in society, the Congress actively raises its voice," Tyagi said.
The Congress workers also prayed for those who died in the Sambhal violence on Nov 24.
"Violence erupted in Sambhal due to the negligence of the UP govt. The govt failed to fulfil its responsibilities, and now it is preventing Congress brass from meeting the families of the deceased persons," he said.
Following the instructions by All India Congress Committee general secretary and in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, Avinash Pandey, Congress members also took out candle marches at district headquarters across the state to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in Sambhal violence.
