Lucknow: Khushi Rathore netted five goals to help Lucknow defeat Kanpur 12-0 in a Pool ‘A' match of the Deendayal Upadhyay State-level Senior Women's Hockey Tournament at Guru Gobind Singh Sports College on Thursday.
Khushi scored in the 19th, 35th, 47th, 57th, and 58th minutes, while Jyoti Mali found the net in the 16th and 42nd minutes. Other scorers for Lucknow included Peetambari Kumari, Rubi, Shashi Kala, Pratima, and Shakshi Shukla.
In the opening match, Varanasi edged past Prayagraj 2-1, with Shalu and Varsha scoring for the winners. In other matches, Meerut thrashed Bareilly 11-0, Moradabad narrowly defeated Azamgarh 1-0, and Ayodhya blanked Jhansi 6-0, while Chitrakootdham (Banda) played a goalless draw with Agra. Earlier, Sports Minister Girish Chandra Yadav inaugurated the tournament.
Rupal, Abhaya bag double sculls bronze
Rupal Yadav and Abhaya Bharti of Uttar Pradesh won the bronze medal in the women's double sculls at the 7th Inter-State Rowing Championship held at Army Rowing Nashik, Pune, from Dec 1 to 6. The UP pair clocked 08:57.1, while the Kerala pair of Anshwara Ajit and Haripriya Vinesh secured the gold with a time of 08:08.9.
Manan's ton in Indian XI's victory
Indian XI defeated Akhil Infra Cricket Club by 7 wickets in the 20th Babu Banarasi Das ‘A' Division Cricket League, thanks to a stormy century by man of the match Manan Kandpal (168) at CSD Sahara Gomtinagar on Thursday. Batting first, Akhil Infra Cricket Club piled up 287 runs in 38.5 overs with opener Shiv Dhiman slamming a brilliant 110 runs off 92 balls. Other major contributors were Amit Chopra (64), Ajit Verma (40) and Harshjeet Yadav (32). Krishna Yadav and Saurabh Yadav claimed three and two wickets respectively.
In reply, Indian XI chased down the target, scoring 288 runs for the loss of three wickets in 38.4 overs. Opener Ajay Kumar made 14 runs, while Manan Kandpal scored a brilliant 168 runs off 108 balls, including 13 fours and 12 sixes, before getting run out.Shubhankar played an unbeaten knock of 70 runs off 89 balls, with 7 fours and 1 six. Manan and Shubhankar put together a 151-run partnership for the second wicket, leading the team to victory.
In another match, Kooh Sports Cricket Club crushed Yorker Sports Club by 158 runs. Batting first, Kooh posted a mammoth total of 306 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 40 overs. Aditya Singh (77), Krturaj Singh (51), Fahad Ahmed (38), Ghanshyam (36), and Aniket Singh (31) made significant contributions. In reply, Yorker Sports Club were bundled out for a mere 148 runs in 33 overs. Fahad claimed three wickets. In another 'A' division match, UP Timber defeated REPL Crusaders by six wickets at Cindra Cricket Ground.
Tanuj upsets Faiz
Lucknow's Tanuj Sharma stunned seventh seed Faiz Ali Kidwai 6-0 in the men's singles round of the Uttar Pradesh State Tennis Championship at Vijayant Khand Stadium on Thursday. Anuj Kumar also upset sixth seed Saurabh Singh 6-4.
