Thiruvananthapuram: Actor Siddique was arrested and released on bail on Friday in a rape complaint filed by a young actress. She had alleged that she was called to the Mascot Hotel in Thiruvananthapuram under the pretence of a film opportunity and was assaulted.
Siddique was granted bail on a Rs 1 lakh bond with the condition that he must not leave the state during the bail period. Police informed the court that Siddique is not cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
It was the third time Siddique appeared before the investigation team at the police control room in Thiruvananthapuram. His visit on Friday morning was to complete the formalities of the anticipatory bail granted by the Supreme Court. After being questioned for about two hours, he was formally arrested and subsequently taken for a medical examination in a police vehicle.
When Siddique was presented at the first class magistrate court in Vanchiyoor, police reiterated their concerns regarding his lack of cooperation with the probe. They suggested that bail be granted with strict conditions, which include not leaving Kerala, surrendering his passport, refraining from threatening or insulting the complainant through social media, not influencing witnesses, and fully cooperating with the investigation.
While granting the anticipatory bail, the SC had expressed doubts about the validity of the complaint, which was filed eight years after the alleged incident in 2016.
