Prayagraj: At least six people died, and five others sustained injuries when an SUV carrying them collided head-on with a speeding truck around 5am near Raipura village on Prayagraj-Karvi highway, in Chitrakoot district, on Friday.
The incident occurred around 5am when a group of 11 people was returning to Chhatarpur from Prayagraj. Police said the driver dozed off due to which he lost control over the vehicle and hit a speeding truck.
Senior officials, including the superintendent of police, Chitrakoot, Arun Kumar Singh, reached the spot to supervise rescue operations.
The deceased were identified as Nanhe (65), Hariram (45), Mohan (45), Ramu (44), Mangana (65), and Ramswaroop Yadav (age unconfirmed).
"The treatment of four injured people is underway at the district hospital in Chitrakoot, while one critically injured person was referred to SRN Hospital in Prayagraj for treatment," police said. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination.
