Ahmedabad: The admission process for undergraduate paramedical and nursing courses concluded in the state, leaving about 29,000 seats vacant. In addition, an extra 7,000 seats remained unfilled as approximately 150 colleges could not obtain council approval due to inadequate infrastructure, including the absence of BU permissions. These institutions, which were operational previously, could not enrol any students this term.
In the previous academic year, 1,082 colleges participated in the admission process with 49,995 available seats for paramedical courses, including nursing. This year, only 896 institutions received authorisation, offering 42,489 seats. The admission committee managed to allocate only 13,000 seats to students.
Sources said that the exclusion of approximately 150 previously functioning colleges from the admission process due to insufficient infrastructure, particularly lacking BU and fire safety compliance, left 7,000 seats unavailable during admissions.
Despite the possibility of some colleges receiving council approval at this stage, the admission process cannot continue as the deadline has elapsed. This marks an unprecedented situation where such a large number of colleges were barred from the admission process due to infrastructure deficiencies, sources in the admission committee said. While existing institutions await approval, several new colleges were also seeking authorisation, but no further action is possible due to the expired deadline.
