Panaji: Minister for water resources, Subhash Shirodkar expressed concern about the lack of access to education for children of migrant workers.
“Every local child in Goa has access to education. The problem is with children of labourers as they are constantly on the move with their parents. Hence they are not able to get into a school,” he said.
He also said that Goa tops the all-India chart with 100% enrolment of local children in schools. Shirodkar added that there is a need to make provisions to ensure that migrant children have access to education, despite their transient lifestyle. Shirodkar was speaking at a gathering of the valedictory function of the two-day national seminar on new state curriculum frameworks as the basis for transforming school education. The function was organised by the directorate of education and the state council of education research and training.
Shirodkar lauded the efforts of all in implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) and urged stakeholders to take NEP to the next level. “We need to check the infrastructure in schools and the problems faced by teachers and address the issues immediately,” he added.
