Ghaziabad: Water samples from two residential complexes have failed quality tests, adding to growing concerns about water safety in Ghaziabad. Between Jan and Nov, the health department has deemed 450 water samples across the district "unsatisfactory" with 162 contaminated samples recorded in May alone.
Last week, three more samples were collected from Olive County in Vasundhara's Sector 5 and two from Bharat City Residency in Teela Mod after residents complained of poor water quality.
"The average TDS of groundwater is between 500-600, but after RO treatment, it comes down to around 100. However, a few months back when we got the water tested at a private lab, the TDS was around 400 before filtration," said Vikash Sharma, president of Olive County apartment owners' association. The society houses over 3,000 people.
Similarly, water samples collected from Bharat City Residency — home to around 2,000 residents— were below acceptable standards as well. The health department issued a warning notice to the society's administration and demanded immediate corrective measures.
Health officials told TOI that more samples will be collected this week from Vasundhara and adjacent areas.
In Sept, 10 water samples collected from KW Shristi Society in Raj Nagar Extension detected the presence of coliform bacteria. Tests conducted on 39 samples from overhead tanks and a borewell highlighted significant contamination as well.
District surveillance officer RK Gupta pressed the need for consistent monitoring to prevent health hazards. "The health department urges societies to prioritise water purification and regular maintenance of supply systems to ensure public safety," said Gupta.
