Panaji: With plans to widen the existing Nerul road from 10m to 25m, PWD has issued a final notice to 31 kiosk owners who have encroached on the road near Nerul bridge to vacate the area within 15 days. The PWD stated that the notice was issued based on the Supreme Court committee on Road Safety instructions to remove all encroachments.
“The encroachments have been termed as hindrances and nuisances to motorists as well as pedestrians by the referred committee,” the PWD stated in the eviction notice that was sent to the Nerul panchayat and to the 31 identified encroachers.
The PWD also mentioned that the road passing through that area is a major district road (MDR) but is presently approximately 10m-wide and there are plans to widen the road to 25m.
Any structure that comes within 15m of the centre of the road is treated as an encroachment on govt land. The 31 encroachments were identified based on a survey and several notices to vacate the area which were ignored.
