Kolkata: A 17-year-old boy, a resident of a condo in the Mukundapur area, died due to a fall on Friday. Cops have, prima facie, ruled out foul play. But they have not ruled out possibilities of an accidental or suicidal fall. The police said they are waiting for the postmortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death.
"The victim was lying in a pool of blood beside tower 11 of the compound on Friday. He was declared dead at the Baghajatin State General Hospital around 2.44 pm. A student of class XI at a reputable private school, he was the son of doctors. We believe that he might have fallen either from the 8th or 19th floor — where the terrace is located — but further investigation is required," said DC (East) Arish Bilal.
The cops said they have recovered the student's glasses from the terrace, indicating he might have fallen from the top of the building. "Our initial investigation found that he was suffering from dyslexia for the past few years, and this was taking a toll on his studies. However, we are not in any position, as of now, to know if he was suffering from any anxiety or depression. We will speak to his family after they recover from the initial shock. We will look into his mobile phone for leads, too. As of now, an inquest has been ordered along with the postmortem," said an investigating officer from the Panchasayer police station.
Dyslexia is a learning disability that makes it difficult for people to read, write, and spell. It is caused by differences in the parts of the brain that process language. Cops, though, said the incident and condition of the teenager should not be equated.
