Lucknow: A non-surgical aortic valve replacement is a safer procedure for aortic stenosis, a condition where the valve in the heart narrows, restricting blood flow. This is often caused by aging, diabetes, and high blood pressure, leading to calcium buildup in the aortic valve.
Cardiologist Dr Ramdas Madhav Pai, California, USA, explained that surgery is not possible in many such cases. The Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) technique uses a catheter to insert a stent, opening the blocked passage.
Dr Pai also addressed mitral valve issues, where a mitral valve clip is used to control blood leakage in heart failure cases.
