Jaipur: School education department secretary Krishna Kunal on Thursday presided over a meeting to deliberate on granting the Rajasthani language the status of a state language.
During the meeting, experts and scholars advocated for defining Rajasthani as a language encompassing all dialects spoken within Rajasthan. They further emphasised that Rajasthani neither opposes nor excludes any dialect. "In accordance with the vision of education minister Madan Dilawar, the state govt is committed to the preservation and advancement of the Rajasthani language. All measures are being taken to achieve this objective," said Kunal.
Distinguished scholars present included Omkar Singh Lakhawat, a member of the committee formed in 1996 to deliberate on the issue. Others present were Govind Shankar Sharma, Kalyan Singh Shekhawat, Pramod Sharma, and Deepika Vijayvargiya.
An official said efforts are being undertaken by the govt to implement this policy expeditiously, with emphasis on promoting Rajasthani at the grassroots level. The National Education Policy (NEP) provisions were also discussed, underscoring the necessity to provide primary education to children in their mother tongue.
Lakhawat proposed establishing a dedicated panorama of Rajasthani and Braj languages and emphasised the necessity to implement standard recommendations for the language's development. He advocated for collaborative efforts to ensure Rajasthani's prosperity.
The experts also highlighted the richness and comprehensiveness of the Rajasthani language dictionary, asserting its unparalleled nature. They contended that bestowing Rajasthani official language status and incorporating it as an educational medium would organically popularise it amongst younger generations. Nevertheless, they cautioned that without integrating Rajasthani into pedagogy and textbooks, its preservation and expansion might remain problematic.
Officials elucidated various initiatives undertaken by the department to bolster the development of the Rajasthani language. These encompass incorporating Rajasthani language and literature in the NTT examination, publishing literature in local dialects at the district level, and procuring Rajasthani language books under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan and distributing them to students.
