The second Test between India and Australia, being played at the Adelaide Oval, recorded an attendance of over 36000 on the first day, breaking a 12-year record at the venue.
The official headcount of 36,255 was nearly a thousand more than the previous record – 35,081 – set in the 2011-12 series between India and Australia, which saw the hosts whitewash the visitors 4-0.
In the current Border-Gavaskar Trophy, however, it is India that remains in the driving seat, having won the opening Test at the Perth Stadium by 295 runs.

According to Cricket Australia, the opening two days at that venue also broke records for attendance at any Test match in the city, at 31,302 (Day 1) and 32,368 (Day 2), respectively.
The match, which lasted four days, saw 96,463 people go through the gates, the second-highest total attendance ever recorded in Perth and the highest at Perth Stadium, CA stated in a press release.
India is playing in Adelaide with the pink ball for the first time in this series – with the One Day warm-up in Canberra being an unofficial game – and does not have pleasant memories at the venue with the same.
The pink ball Test between the two sides saw the Indians get all out for 36 in 2020 – a memory they will look to bury with favourable results this time around.
