Guwahati: Two youths were arrested by the police and forest officials in Golaghat's Numaligarh on Thursday for harassing and teasing wild elephants coming out of a forest.
The arrest was made after a video of the two youths harassing an elephant went viral on social media platforms.
The arrested individulas have been identified as Omarsah Ali and Miraj Ali. They were kept at Numaligrah PS on Thursday after the arrest and will be produced before a court on Friday.
Beat officer of Bokiyal, Ankur Mahanta, said, "Once subjected to harassment elephants become ferocious and they become more likely to attack people. After the video of the youths went viral we identified them and subsequently made their arrests. They were arrested under Sections 9, 51 and 52 of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 for harassing the wild animals."
