Chennai: Three men hitched a ride with a biker in Thiruvanmiyur and snatched five sovereigns of gold jewellery worth `3.2 lakh. Police apprehended all three suspects.
Police said Dilip Robert, 30, from Palavakkam, was riding his bike on Dec 2 when three men intercepted him at Jayanthi Theatre Junction on LB Road. They told Robert they were in a hurry to reach the house of a friend who met with an accident.
The three men accompanied Robert on his way towards Tidel Park. After they got down, they snatched his gold chain, weighing five sovereigns, and fled. Robert filed a complaint at Thiruvanmiyur police station. Police used CCTV camera footage to track down and arrest Madhavan, 20, Kalaimani, 23, and a juvenile, all from Kannagi Nagar.
The two adult suspects were remanded in judicial custody, while the juvenile was sent to a correctional facility for boys and girls in Kellys.
Investigations are on to determine if they were involved in similar crimes in the past .
