Guwahati: Manipur CM N Biren Singh met the representatives of the joint action committee (JAC) formed in response to the disappearance of Laishram Kamalbabu, 56 and a Meitei, and his family members at his office on Thursday.
Singh stated on X that Kamalbabu was last seen at Army's 57 Mountain Division HQ, Leimakhong and the JAC members "presented a key piece of evidence — the entry signature of Shri Kamalbabu, which he had signed before entering the camp."
Singh said he informed the JAC and the family of the missing man "about the ongoing efforts to locate Shri Kamalbabu at the earliest, with the assistance of the security forces. The JAC also expressed their desire to draw the attention of Shri @rajnathsingh Ji, Hon'ble Defence Minister to find Kamalbabu at the earliest."
Singh's meeting with the family members comes two days after Manipur HC formed a four-member committee to conduct an inquiry into the disappearance of Kamalbabu on Nov 25.
The division bench comprising Chief Justice D Krishnakumar and Justice Golmei Gaiphulsillu Kabui, in its order on Tuesday, stated that the committee has been set up for "conducting enquiry regarding the missing of the said person whether the said person has been abducted in the said camp or fled on his own."
The bench issued the order on a habeas corpus filed by the missing person's brother, Leishram Brajabanshi Singh, on Nov 27.
