Gurgaon: GMDA on Wednesday conducted an anti-encroachment drive on CRPF Road between the bus stand and Sheetla Mata Mandir Road along with MCG and police.
Tin sheds, kiosks, iron structures, and illegally extended shopfronts on the stretch were removed.
According to officials, shopkeepers extended their businesses by up to 15 feet into the public space, contributing to severe traffic congestion and inconvenience to pedestrians. The encroachments were done mostly by owners of food joints, repair shops, blanket stores, and grocery shops.
The action followed two surveys conducted by district town planner (DTP) R S Batth, who had on Monday warned the encroachers to clear the illegal structures within 24 hours. However, most shopkeepers failed to comply, prompting the authorities' intervention.
During the operation, the team, led by DTP Batth, demolished over 90 illegal sheds, 10 street carts and 5 kiosks. Fabricated iron nets, ramps, and walls that encroached on the road were also removed.
"Those who ignore repeated warnings will face strict action. I request everyone to cooperate in making Gurgaon encroachment-free and clean," Batth said, adding that such encroachments not only block traffic flow but also compromise public safety.
Residents have for long complained to the authorities about illegal hawkers and congested roads in the area.
Some officials present during the drive included ATP Satinder Arya, ATP Mange Ram, JE Sumit, JE Ashish, and Mohit Kumar.
