Hyderabad: Telangana is placed seventh in the country when it comes to women-led start-ups, with the state having a total of 917 start-ups headed by at least one woman director. Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi are placed in first, second, and third positions, respectively.
As per details submitted by the minister of state for commerce & industry Jitin Prasada in 2023, there are a total of 17,033 entities recognised as start-ups with at least one woman director in sectors such as construction, agriculture, education, food & beverages, healthcare & life sciences, and IT services, among others. In 2019, this figure was 5,675.
Of the 17,033 start-ups, 2,916 are in Maharashtra, 1,784 in Uttar Pradesh, 1,610 in Delhi, 1,432 in Gujarat, and 1,334 in Tamil Nadu. When it comes to Telangana, the number of start-ups led by women entrepreneurs has grown continuously in the last five years. While there were 306 such start-ups in the state in 2019, the figure increased to 391 and 520 in 2020 and 2021, respectively. By 2022, a couple of hundred more start-ups were added to the list.
The ministry further submitted that by Oct 31, 2024, a total of 1.52 lakh entities have been recognised as start-ups, of which 73,151 start-ups have at least one woman director.
