Ramgarh: A large gathering of religious activists, comprising members from Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, organised a demonstration here on Thursday against the persecution of minorities in neighbouring Bangladesh. The protesters urged the Union govt to intervene swiftly to safeguard the lives and assets of Hindu, Sikh, Jain and Buddhist minorities, citing the Bangladesh government's inability to protect these them.
The protestors assembled at Sidhu-Kanhu ground before proceeding towards Subash Chowk, covering a distance of 2km. Their procession traversed through Shanichar Bazaar, Gola Road and Chatti Bazaar in Ramgarh town.
VHP's state joint secretary, Manoj Poddar, said that they submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner of Ramgarh, addressed to the President of India. The petition demanded the immediate release of priest Chinnamay Das and called for an end to the persecution of Hindu, Sikh, Jain and Buddhist minorities in Bangladesh. They emphasised the need for India's intervention to ensure the safety and security of these minority communities in the neighbouring country.
