Guwahati: Chirang district authority has declared the two-kilometre radius of the IOCL-Bongaigaon Refinery complex and its township situated in Dhaligaon as a ‘no-drone zone', following a request from the refinery authority citing apprehensions regarding potential aerial threats.
In the event of any transgression, security forces deployed for safety and security measures are authorised to implement appropriate actions, including downing non-conventional aerial objects, the district authority has mandated.
District information and public relations officer (DIPRO) conveyed that the directives have been issued "to enhance security measures".
"This restriction prohibits the operation of drones, paragliders, powered hang gliders, micro-light aircraft, hot air balloons, UAVs and analogous aerial objects within the designated zone. The initiative aims to safeguard the refinery and township from potential threats, including those posed by anti-national elements," the DIPRO added.
The ‘no-drone zone' shall be implemented forthwith and remain active until further notice. District authority has beseeched residents, airspace users and stakeholders to adhere to this directive to ensure the precinct's safety and security.
