Udupi: A two-wheeler rider died after a speeding car hit his stationary vehicle at Neere village in Karkala taluk on Thursday.
The deceased is Shankar Shetty,71. He was riding a motorcycle from Bailur and stopped with the indicator on by the side of the state highway at Neere at 9.15 am. At this time, a car coming from Hiriyadka towards Bailur, driven at high speed and carelessly, collided head-on with the stationary motorcycle. After the collision, the car lost control, hit a tree on the roadside, and fell into a ditch. As a result of the collision, Shankar fell onto the asphalt road with his motorcycle and sustained serious injuries.
He was taken to a hospital in Manipal for treatment, where doctors declared that Shankar Shetty had passed away.
A case has been registered at Karkala Town police station under sections 281 and 106 of the BNS.
