Jhansi: A large model of the Indian Navy destroyer ship Visakhapatnam was unveiled to mark the Navy Day at Sainik School in Jhansi on Wednesday.
President of Sainik School Jhansi, the chief guest on the occasion, unveiled the monumental model, a first of its kind in the Bundelkhand region. Crafted meticulously by Mazagon Dockyard Limited, Mumbai, the model was gifted to Sainik School Jhansi by Commodore Vijay Shankar Babele, DSM (Retired), a senior patron of the National Sainik Institution's Bundelkhand unit.
It was a memorable day for the former soldiers of the National Sainik Institution. Commodore Babele, the distinguished guest, motivated the students, urging them to dream big and set ambitious goals during their academic journey. Also present on the occasion were Colonel A K Niranjan (Retired), president of the National Sainik Institution's Bundelkhand unit, vice-president Siddhant Dubey petty officer, treasurer honorary lieutenant Lakhan Lal Sharma, secretary Rajendra Chaturvedi petty officer, along with other officials, former soldiers and principal of Sainik School Jhansi, teaching staff, and all cadets from Sainik School Jhansi and Sainik School Chandrapur. This model of the Indian Navy destroyer ship Visakhapatnam at Sainik School Jhansi stands as a special attraction for the residents of Bundelkhand, symbolising the region's connection and contribution to the nation's naval strength and heritage.
Navy day is celebrated every year on Dec 4 to commemorate the remarkable and decisive operation done by Indian navy during 1971 Indo-Pakistan war.
