Jodhpur: Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) said on Wednesday that a key drug smuggler who acted as a conduit for the supply of ganja to Rajasthan and primarily targeted college students was arrested on Tuesday.
The accused, Mehram Bishnoi, has been running a drugs trafficking operation from Odisha since 2004 and has connections with major figures in interstate drug trafficking network, said NCB officials. He targeted the students of prominent educational institutions like IIT Jodhpur, AIIMS Jodhpur, NIFT and colleges in the city's periphery, they added.
NCB's Jodhpur unit had seized 865 kg of ganja, which had an estimated price of Rs 4.30 crore in international market, from a vehicle in the city in May 2024 under its ‘Operation Shanker', said the agency's zonal director Ghanshyam Soni.
"This ganja had been consigned from Odisha. Mehram's name emerged during interrogations of those arrested in the case, and we had since been chasing him. Six people have already been arrested in that case," added Soni. Mehram sourced the drug from Odisha and send consignments to Jodhpur and other areas of Marwar. TNN
