New Delhi: Five minor girls were rescued from different areas in Delhi in a joint operation conducted by the crime branch of Delhi Police, the Jharkhand police, and an NGO. The rescued girls, some as young as 12, were working as domestic workers without pay for up to four years. The authorities are working to reunite the girls with their families in Jharkhand.
The operation was launched following the arrest of a human trafficker, Poonam Marandi, last month from a rented accommodation in Shakarpur. Marandi, who was involved in trafficking young girls from Jharkhand to Delhi-NCR, allegedly exploited these girls for years.
An officer said that in one of the cases, a girl was brought to Delhi in 2021 on the pretext of a job opportunity. While the father managed to stay in touch with her for the first three months, all communication ceased thereafter.
