Ghaziabad: A 43-year-old died on Tuesday after allegedly being hit by a speeding private bus while crossing a road in Arthala. The driver has been arrested, but the conductor remains at large, police said.
The man, Rajkumar was a resident of Sanjay Colony, Arthala, and an employee at a private firm in the city. He was struck on Monday evening. "Rajkumar was crossing the road to take an auto-rickshaw when the bus, heading from Ghaziabad, hit him. The driver and conductor fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle," ACP (Sahibabad) Rajneesh Upadhyay said.
Police received information about the accident from a passerby around 8pm, following which a team rushed to the spot. "Rajkumar was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was undergoing treatment. Later, he succumbed to severe head injuries around 3pm on Tuesday," he added.
Based on a complaint by Rajkumar's son, Shiva, an FIR was registered under sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving) of the BNS. The bus involved in the incident has been seized, police said.
The investigation is ongoing to trace the conductor and determine further details about the incident, police said.
