Lucknow: The Vikasnagar police, in collaboration with the north zone police team, arrested two suspects following an encounter in connection with a purse-snatching incident in the wee hours of Wednesday.
The incident had occurred on Nov 29, 2024, when the wife of a police officer was dragged by miscreants for about 30 metres in in their bid to snatch her purse.
Police launched an extensive investigation and analysed CCTV footage to zero in on the accused.
Acting on specific intelligence, police apprehended the suspects, Snehil Srivastava and Apoorv alias Atul, from two separate locations. Both hail from Badshah Kheda in Talkatora.
"During the recovery process, the suspects disclosed the location of stolen items. However, one of them, Apoorv, opened fire at the police during the operation. In the ensuing encounter, officers fired in retaliation after which the suspects surrendered. Apoorv sustained minor injuries in the incident," said ADCP (north zone) JK Dubey.
Recovered items include the stolen ‘mangalsutra', a pair of anklets, Rs 120 cash, and the motorcycle used in the crime. The police also seized a firearm, ammunition, and other documents in the operation.
