Vadodara: A 16-year-old boy was killed by a dumper near Soma Talav in the city on Tuesday night. The accident occurred when Jayant Rathwa, the son of a head constable, was on his motorcycle with a friend.
Rathwa had gone to get some photocopies and was returning home. The dumper hit his motorcycle and ran over his body, killing him on the spot. The driver abandoned the dumper some distance away and fled the scene. Rathwa was taken to SSG Hospital and then to a private hospital, but doctors declared him dead.
The accident has again highlighted the growing incidence of rash driving and fatal accidents in the city. Despite the police notification limiting their movements in the city, heavy vehicles move about freely on the roads, even during the day.
