Dibrugarh: Three unidentified men robbed the Sarupathar poost office in Golaghat district of Rs 1.2 lakh on Monday afternoon, exploiting a moment when the postmaster was alone on the premises.
The incident occurred around 3.30 pm, when three men, estimated to be between 35-40 years old, orchestrated a carefully planned robbery. According to postmaster Jadab Bora, the sole staff member present at the time, the perpetrators used a ruse to enter his cabin.
“One man positioned himself at the entrance, while two others entered the cabin. One of them engaged in conversation with me about postal fixed deposit schemes, while his accomplice sat quietly in a chair,” Bora said, describing the moments before the attack.
The situation quickly turned hostile when one of the robbers suddenly snatched Bora’s mobile phone from the table. “Before I could react, the other man kicked a table and grabbed me from behind,” Bora added.
The criminals then ransacked the office and robbed Rs 1.2 lakh from a drawer. The timing of the robbery appears to have been carefully chosen, as other staff members were either out delivering mail or on a lunch break.
The police have launched an investigation after an FIR was filed at the Sarupathar Police Station.
