Thiruvananthapuram: As many as 33 people residing in the city were allegedly cheated out of money worth lakhs of rupees by ‘tour operators' who offered them a North Indian trip a few weeks ago.
On the complaints of the victims, Museum police began a probe on Tuesday after registering a case under BNS Sections 316 (2) for criminal breach of trust and 318 (4) for cheating.
The case was registered against Charley Varghese and Aswathy, who were running an office at Sasthamangalam.
According to police, the accused advertised on a social media platform about a tour package for Rs 56,500 to Agra, Delhi, and Sree Nagar in Sept this year. The victims paid a total of Rs 18.11 lakh for the tour scheduled to happen in Nov. However, days after receiving the cash, the accused closed the office, and attempts to contact them failed.
