Rajkot: A jewellery unit owner has accused one of his artisans of stealing gold worth Rs 17.5 lakh. The owner, Neeraj Dhanak, on Tuesday night filed a complaint at A Division police station against Sagoor Hussain, who is from West Bengal. In his complaint, Dhanak stated that in Oct, he had distributed gold to the artisans at his establishment, GKD Pvt Ltd, to make jewellery. An internal investigation revealed that Sagoor had pilfered about 240g of gold, valued at Rs 17.5 lakh.
Between Oct 4 and Dec 2, Dhanak gave gold to nine craftsmen. On Dec 1, one of his employees, Deepak, alerted him about the theft of a part of the gold assigned to a craftsman called Yusuf Ali. Ali informed Deepak about the theft of gold from his worktable.
CCTV footage of the factory showed Sagoor Hussain to be the thief. During his interrogation, Sagoor confessed to pilfering small quantities of gold, from his own and other craftsmen's assignments over two months. An audit revealed a deficit of 240g. Ali was witness to the offence.
