Ahmedabad: A truck hit a stationary motorcycle near a railway crossing on Sunday evening, killing a 68-year-old pillion rider. Vipul Patel, 46, a resident of Khadol village in Dhandhuka taluka of Ahmedabad, said in his complaint with Sabarmati railway police that he and his uncle Jayanti Patel, 68, were on their way to Rayka village on his motorcycle when the accident occurred.
He said he stopped his motorcycle at the railway crossing gate that was closed for a train to pass. At the time, a truck driver, driving at high speed hit the motorcycle, throwing both riders off the vehicle. Jayanti suffered critical injuries and was rushed to Dhandhuka community health centre by one of their relatives, Vinod Patel. However, he could not be saved.
The truck driver fled the spot. Sabarmati railway police registered a complaint of rash driving, causing damage, endangering lives and causing death by negligence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with charges of the Motor Vehicles Act and the Railways Act against the unknown truck driver.
