Thiruvananthapuram: State human rights commission (SHRC) chairperson, Justice Alexander Thomas, urged the Kudumbashree Mission to continue providing food supplies, including rice and grains, to 98 destitute families in the Manamboor grama panchayat on a monthly basis.
The commission also requested that the panchayat continue implementing the Patheyam scheme to alleviate the hunger of family members.
The panchayat secretary must inform the commission of the actions taken within six weeks.
SHRC requested that a senior official appointed by the Kudumbashree director attend the sitting on Jan 14. The panchayat secretary informed the commission that the food supply scheme was implemented through the Hunger-Free Kerala project until Nov 2023.
The commission's order stated that the 98 families, who are destitute and include sick individuals, are experiencing hardship, and it is the responsibility of the Kudumbashree Mission to restart the project.
The action was taken based on a complaint filed by Mavila Vijayan, a resident of Varkala.
