Ludhiana: Temporary employees of the civil hospital called off their planned “semi-naked” protest outside the office of the deputy commissioner on Monday after their demand for release of pending salaries was accepted by authorities. Temporary employees had been saying that they had not received their salaries for the past two months, due to which it had become difficult for them to run the household.
Raj Kumar Happy, of the User Charges Employees Sangharsh (Struggle) Committee, said that temporary employees gathered in front of the DC office on Monday from 12 noon to 1pm. After talks with the administration, they received salary for the month of Oct and were assured that salary for Nov would be given in 10 days, he said, adding that they called off the demonstration.
Happy said that he was getting Rs 4,500 to Rs 6,500 per month and it was very difficult to work for such a low salary. Deploring the condition of temporary employees, he said that the govt should regularise them. The User Charges Employees Sangharsh (Struggle) Committee member said that 70% of the employees working in the hospital are temporary and the government had not carried out recruitment for years. He asked the administration to pay attention to the condition of employees. tnn
