Lucknow: A scooter-borne couple died on the spot after being hit by a truck in the Gosaiganj area of Lucknow on Monday night.
"The accident took place around 8pm. The deceased were identified as Kushmesh Kannaujiya, 40, and his wife Aarti, 38, residents of Barabanki. Both were coming to Lucknow from their home in Sekhana Ghat with their three daughters on their scooter," said SHO Gosaiganj Brijesh Kumar Tripathi. The police reached the spot after receiving the information and sent the bodies for postmortem examination. Two daughters are safe, while the youngest daughter sustained head injuries. She is being treated at a CHC.
Police said the truck driver fled from the spot after the accident. However, the police chased and stopped the truck near Sushant Golf City and arrested the truck driver, Dheerendra Pal, who was taken to the police station, said ACP Gosaiganj, Kiran Yadav. Police said that the deceased lived in Sekhanapur village, where the Kushmesh worked as a washerman.
He was coming to his in-laws' house with his wife and daughters. When they reached near Chand Sarai village, they had an accident with a truck. The husband and wife fell off the scooter and the truck ran over them.
