Chennai: A 40-year-old man was arrested on Sunday on the charges of abusing minister P K Sekarbabu and Naam Tamilar Katchi party leader Seeman on social media.
He attempted to evade arrest by locking himself inside his house. He later broke his leg while trying to escape by scaling a wall.
Police said Gangai Amaran was staying on the first floor of an apartment house at Lotus Colony in Anna Nagar for the past six months. He went live on a social media page and started abusing a senior police senior officer, Sekarbabu and Seeman.
After police personnel spotted this, the message was forwarded to the cybercrime wing of the central crime branch (CCB) to track the suspect. The cybercrime police found that Gangai Amaran, was streaming live from his residence in Anna Nagar.
Following this, the police personnel tried to nab him. However he locked himself in and a team led by Anna Nagar inspector of police M Saravanan barged into the house. Gangai Amaran scaled a wall and tried to escape, but fell and broke his leg, police said.
He was admitted to the Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) hospital for his treatment.
