Kanpur: A young couple, who had fled their homes, approached the police station with a written declaration of their intention to marry, affirming their adult status, in Farrukhabad district on Monday.
The police conducted an inquiry and summoned their relatives for a discussion about the proposed marriage. Both families, who shared kinship, eventually gave their approval.
The couple subsequently exchanged garlands at the Hanuman temple situated within the Rajepur police station premises. The events happened under Rajepur police station limits. The couple in question were Amit Saxena, whose father Pramod Kumar resides in Kaithal Nagla village under Mohammadabad Kotwali area of Farrukhabad, and Durga, daughter of Dinesh Kumar from Kadakka in the Rajepur police station area.
Their relationship flourished over two years. When Amit's marriage was arranged with someone else, the couple decided to elope, leading to a police case. Upon their apprehension, they asserted their adult status and desired to wed, submitting a formal application. The police facilitated discussions between both families based on this application.
Following the families' agreement, Amit and Durga's wedding ceremony was conducted at the temple with traditional rituals. They exchanged garlands and received blessings from their relatives. Station in-charge Yogendra Singh Solanki said that the marriage proceeded with both families' consent.
