GURGAON: Two notorious interstate burglars were nabbed by the Gurgaon police after an exchange of fire with them in the Dhankot area late on Monday night. Both offenders suffered gunshot injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at the civil hospital.
The accused, Ranjit Soni from Sangam Vihar and Tanjir Alam from Madhavpur Beria in Betia district of Bihar, committed a burglary in the Palam Vihar area on Monday night. The police team received an alert about the offence and the movement of the suspects in the area at around 11 pm.
The Palam Vihar Crime Branch team immediately swung into action and tried to intercept the accused travelling in a Honda City car at 75 Feet Road in Dhankot at 11.30 pm.
"The offenders rammed their vehicle into police barricades. As their car got stuck, the duo got out of their vehicle and opened fire at the police team in an attempt to escape. A bullet hit the police four-wheeler. In self-defence, the crime branch team retaliated with gunfire. Both offenders suffered bullet injuries to their legs and collapsed at the scene. They were rushed to the civil hospital for treatment," said a Crime Branch official.
Police recovered gold ornaments worth about Rs 50 lakh from the duo. "The two accused are notorious interstate burglars. They were involved in about 40 offences in different states," ACP Crime Varun Dahiya said.
A forensic team visited the crime scene and collected evidence. The sedan used by the offenders and the illegal weapons also have been seized. Police personnel were unharmed in the exchange of fire, and the condition of the duo is stable, Gurgaon police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar said.
