Noida: The food safety department has collected food samples from 40 canteens of hospitals, schools and colleges across Noida and Greater Noida.
Sarvesh Kumar, assistant commissioner of the food safety department, said around 270 canteens are currently operating in the district's health and education institutions. "Our primary objective is to ensure that the food served in all these establishments meets safety and quality standards. We have collected samples from many canteens, including those supplying mid-day meals in govt schools," Kumar said.
Samples of lentils, rice, oil, milk and sugar, as well as cooked food items like samosas, patties and condiments were collected during the drive, the officer said. Additionally, the department plans to conduct a two-day special inspection drive every month to cover the remaining canteens in the district.
"As festivals approach, we are also intensifying inspections at bakeries to check if products like cakes and bread are fresh and within their shelf life," Kumar said.
