Varanasi: A workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) was organised by the Intellectual Property Rights and Technology Transfer (IPRTT) Cell of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) on Monday.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness and provide support to university inventors in all aspects of intellectual property protection and innovation promotion. The event was presided over by BHU Rector, Prof. Sanjay Kumar, who highlighted the importance of intellectual property rights. He stated that patented products must be commercialised to achieve their real value. MJ Shankar Raman, Chief Executive Officer, IITM Pravartak Foundation, IIT Madras, Chennai, spoke about the importance of IPR and addressed complex issues in filing IPR.
He stressed the importance of filing patents by educational institutions rather than private companies. Avinash Kumar, former Associate Director (IPR), DRDO, New Delhi, gave a brief account of the importance of Intellectual Property Rights and their protection. He highlighted how to provide value to innovations through law. Sharana Gouda, Deputy Controller, Indian Patent Office, Kolkata, talked about the current scenario in the patenting procedure. He stated that the patent office is now processing about one lakh patents a year with an increased task force.
