Aizawl: Mizoram IGP Lalbiakthanga Khiangte on Tuesday said the department had seized narcotic drugs and other substances worth over Rs 201.47 crore between January and November.
Khiangte said 327 cases have been registered, involving drug trafficking, narcotics and other substances, while 448 people have been arrested during the aforementioned period. He further said 77.422 kgs of heroin, worth over Rs 23.22 crore, had been seized, while 275 cases had been registered, leading to the arrest of 376 suspects.
Methamphetamine, weighing 557.424 kgs and worth over Rs 72.46 crore, too have been seized, with 26 registered cases and arrest of 45 people, Khiangte said.
He added that crystal meth worth Rs 105,46 crore and weighing 35.155 kgs and 294.925 kgs of cannabis, amounting to Rs 14.74 lakh, had been confiscated in the ensuing period.
Enforcement agencies have attributed the rise in drug trafficking to an absence of efficient administration in Myanmar, especially in Chin state, after the military coup in the neighbouring country on February 1, 2021.
