Prayagraj: With the work of the new flyover near Alopi Devi Temple nearing completion, the authorities have started the installation of sound barriers on Alopibagh flyover and Begum Bazar railway bridge.
While the Alopibagh flyover is likely to open for movement on the day of PM Narendra Modi's visit on Dec 13, the Begum Bazar railway overbridge is already operational. Around Rs 60 lakh will be incurred on sound barrier installation.
These barriers are being installed on left side of the new and right side of the old flyover at Alopibagh to ensure that the sound of traffic does not disturb residents living beside it. The sound barriers were first installed on Bakshi Band ROB and with the success of this pilot project, it was planned to install them on all ROBs and flyovers in the district.
While workers are installing iron pillars to support the barrier at Alopibagh flyover, over 50% of the work of installing sound barriers on Begum Bazar ROB is complete. The barriers, brought from Mumbai and Bangalore, have glass wool filled in the middle, which helps block sound. It helps reduce the noise to less than 55 decibels, which is as per the standard. .
"After installation of sound barriers on Begum Bazar railway bridge and Alopibagh flyover, people will get relief from traffic noise," said project director, UP State Bridge Corporation, Anirudha Yadav.
