Nagpur: Most parts of the country, including Vidarbha, are set to experience a warm winter, with fewer cold wave days expected this season. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast above-normal minimum and maximum temperatures for the winter months from December to February. The seasonal outlook also predicts below-normal cold wave days over the Northwest, Central, East, and Northeast parts of the country.
In December, normal maximum temperatures are anticipated across Central India, with cold wave occurrences expected to be lower than usual. "Most parts of the Vidarbha meteorological subdivision are predicted to experience above-normal minimum temperatures during December 2024," the IMD report stated.
On Monday, Nagpur and other parts of Vidarbha saw an increase in minimum temperatures due to cloudy skies, a result of Cyclone Fengal in the Bay of Bengal. While the minimum temperature rose, there was no significant change in the maximum temperatures, which remained normal. Gadchiroli recorded the lowest temperature in the region at 14.5°C.
Akola was the warmest district, with a minimum temperature of 21.7°C, showing a departure of 5.3°C from the norm. Despite the warmer minimums, maximum temperatures in all Vidarbha districts stayed under 30°C.
The cloudy skies are expected to persist for the next couple of days, with continued mild winter conditions across the region.
