TIRUVANNAMALAI: The bodies of five children and a couple were on Monday pulled out from the wreckage of their home at the foot of a hillock in Tiruvannamalai, 20 hours after they were buried under a landslide. Teams from NDRF and TNDRF struggled to recover the bodies under the threat of another landslide as heavy rain in the wake of Cyclone Fengal had loosened soil in the hilly area.
Meanwhile, Krishnagiri and Salem districts faced intense rainfall from 6am on Sunday to 6am on Monday.
Chief minister M K Stalin wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking 2,000 crore to take up immediate relief work.

Uthangarai in Krishnagiri district recorded 50cm rainfall, as per collector K M Sarayu. Landslides on the Salem-Yercaud ghat road halted all transport to Yercaud until further notice. Salem collector R Brinda Devi said the continuous rain led to landslides in multiple areas along the ghat road.
Mettupalayam and its surroundings in Coimbatore received rain through the night. Coimbatore and Nilgiri were issued heavy rain alerts until Dec 3. Several places in Cuddalore and Villupuram districts were inundated after water release from dams caused breach in bunds of lakes.
