Alwar: A 27-year-old man took his own life by hanging himself from a tree in the forest six days after his wife's death that had led to a dowry death case lodged by his wife's family, causing him severe anguish. His death prompted his family to lodge a case against his in-laws. After Brajesh's body was found hanging at Lakhepura village under Kanchanpur police station of Dholpur district, there was considerable unrest amongst the villagers. Police retrieved the body and sent it for post-mortem, after which it was released to his family.Police said Brajesh's wife Bhart, 25, died under questionable circumstances at Lakhepura village Nov 25-26 midnight. Her mother, Ranjita, lodged a dowry death case against Brajesh and his family, and police were conducting a probe. Shocked by the dowry death allegations, Brajesh ended his own life, villagers told police. Brajesh's family lodged a case against Bharti's family, alleging they compelled him to suicide.
Brajesh's family alleged that Bharti's family wrongfully accused Brajesh of murder. In a community gathering convened on Friday, Bharti's mother, Ranjita, and father, Ramakant, demanded Rs 50,000 from Brajesh's family for settlement. They also allegedly threatened to have Brajesh and his family members imprisoned if the sum was not paid. This precipitated Brajesh's psychological distress, leading him to suicide, his family old police.
Kanchanpur police station ASI Hotam Singh said Brajesh's brother, Premchand, lodged a case against Bharti's family. "An investigation is on," he added.
