Rajkot: Eight people have been booked for attacking a father-daughter duo with deadly weapons near Khatki Vas on Morbi Road at 3pm on Sunday.
Assailants wielding swords, pipes and knives targeted a 25-year-old woman, Aastha, and her father, Mehmad Bhadhula. The attacked was reportedly motivated by suspicions that Aastha's 20-year-old brother Arbaz alias Raees had informed the authorities about illicit liquor operations.
At B Division police station, Aastha Bhadhula registered a case for assault with deadly weapons against eight individuals: Haider Bapu, Ali Bapu, Dham Bapu, Saddam Bapu, Hasan Bapu, Shahid, Haider Bapu's mother Roshan and an unidentified person.
Six months ago, police had raided a liquor business, allegedly run by Haider Bapu, purportedly acting on information provided by Arbaz. This led to friction between Arbaz and Haider Bapu.
Dham Bapu and Saddam Bapu verbally confronted Arbaz at a snack shop on Sunday. After Arbaz's report of this encounter to his family, the accused initiated their attack, injuring Aastha and Mehmad.
Police are examining CCTV footage as part of their investigation.
