Ludhiana: A car caught fire on Chandigarh Road on Saturday night due to a short circuit in the engine. The vehicle was severely damaged, but fortunately the driver managed to escape by jumping out of the burning vehicle.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred outside Vardhman Mill on Chandigarh Road, as the car was travelling from Samrala Chowk to Jamalpur Chowk.
On receiving information about the incident, the fire brigade and police from division 7 promptly arrived at the scene and brought the fire under control.
Investigating officer ASI Malkit Singh said the car owner was returning home from work when the vehicle caught fire near Vardhman Mills due to engine sparking. Investigation is ongoing.

This incident followed his prior arrest for drunk driving on Sep 16. He's being charged with rash driving and other offences under various Acts, but charges for causing hurt were omitted.
