Gurgaon: MCG commissioner Ashok Kumar on Monday directed officials to issue show-cause notices to an assistant engineer and a junior engineer for failing to address public grievances. The action was taken following complaints of negligence during a public grievance meeting.
One of the complaints was filed by a resident of Jharsa village, who alleged that an illegal construction by a neighbour had gone unaddressed despite repeated complaints since Sept 10. The assistant engineer responsible for the area had failed to act on the issue, leading Kumar to order immediate disciplinary action.
In another case, women from Indira Colony reported that the boundary wall of a park had been broken, allowing encroachments and the movement of anti-social elements. The junior engineer overseeing the area was accused of ignoring multiple complaints and failing to answer calls. When asked to call the junior engineer in Kumar's presence, the complainant received no response, prompting the MCG chief to order a show-cause notice on the spot.
"Negligence in public matters will not be tolerated, and officials who fail in their duties will face action as per rules," Kumar said.
The commissioner also highlighted a prior instance of negligence on Nov 25, when a taxation department clerk delayed processing a Jharsa resident's request to correct property records. The complainant revealed that the clerk unnecessarily insisted on a survey meant for Lal Dora properties, delaying the file by over six weeks. After reviewing the e-office portal, Kumar found the delay unjustified and issued a show-cause notice to the clerk.
Kumar emphasised that MCG employees must prioritise resolving public grievances promptly to ensure accountability.
