Hyderabad: The 1.5-km stretch connecting RK Puram and Safilguda railway station in Malkajgiri is in a state of severe disrepair, with numerous potholes and uneven surfaces making travel hazardous.
Locals say the road from RK Puram rythu bazar to Safilguda railway station, passing through Devinagar, Seetaram Nagar, and Balaram Nagar, has been in a poor state for the past two years. The situation worsened after pipeline work was completed, with authorities failing to restore the surface properly.
"Several potholes and loose gravel remain scattered across the pathway. During peak hours, congestion reaches alarming levels as motorists attempt to manoeuvre through the bad road. Two-wheeler riders, especially, face significant risks, particularly during rainfall when water-filled potholes become difficult to spot," said B Srinivas, a resident of Uttam Nagar.
This road is crucial for local residents, connecting nine colonies and serving over 30,000 vehicles daily. Commuters heading to Safilguda railway station face significant challenges navigating this route.
"The road's condition is impacting not just daily commuters but also emergency vehicles and school buses that rely on it. Residents of nearby colonies have repeatedly raised the issue with civic authorities. However, despite multiple complaints, no work has been undertaken," said S Srikanth, a resident of Devinagar Colony. Community members are calling for a complete reconstruction of the road, with an additional pavement for pedestrians, rather than short-term fixes, by patching potholes.
"Recently, an emergency repair team assessed the road's condition. The civic body has allocated 51 lakh for repairs, with construction work set to begin in the next 10 days," said an official from the GHMC engineering wing.
