Bhubaneswar: As many as 10 students were injured when a truck collided with a school bus on Monday morning at Korian bypass on National Highway-55 in Dhenkanal district.
The accident took place around 6:30am when the private school bus, carrying approximately 40 passengers, including teachers, was on route to school. Police officials cited heavy fog and ongoing construction work, which has reduced the highway to one-way traffic, as contributing factors to the accident.
The injured students were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where they received primary treatment and were subsequently discharged.
Police have seized the truck and launched a manhunt for the driver, who is absconding. "We have traced the vehicle owner through registration details. He has been asked to produce the driver at the police station," said sub-divisional police officer Bibhuti Mohapatra.
He added that the one-way traffic arrangement due to construction work has been causing frequent minor accidents in the area.
